"Reckless Heat" (Lynn Raye Harris) ★★★★★

He’s my best friend.
He’s everything I ever wanted.
And he doesn’t know how I feel.
I have three weeks left to tell him before he leaves this place forever…

There’s only one way I know how to do that.
I have to give him what I’ve never given anyone.
I’m going to ask him to be my first…

Matt Girard is the guy every girl wants. Rich, handsome, and popular, his future is brighter than the sun. Evie Baker comes from the wrong side of town. She loves Matt desperately, but he only sees her as his tomboy best friend instead of the young woman she’s blossomed into.
Until one fateful night when a reckless dare changes everything…

This is the prequel story to HOT PURSUIT, Book 1 in the Hostile Operations Team Series.

"Reckless Heat" by Lynn Raye Harris.  This is a prequel to the very first book of the HOT series.  I was so excited when offered the opportunity to read and review this story.  The HOT series is, by far, one of my favorites.  When authors write prequels to offer the readers a chance to learn about the characters' lives prior to the stories is something I am a big fan of.  I simply adored this story - Matt, even as a teen, is strong and protective of Evie.  Evie, although a bit more innocent and naive than in HOT Protector, is kind and caring and reminded me so much of me as a teen - shy and awkward yet yearning for the cool guy to love you.  I enjoy Ms. Harris' writing style and her characters.  Although this story isn't filled with the usual HOT suspense, it still flowed and moved along at a good pace that kept me turning the pages and yearning for more.  This is a really quick read but offers some fantastic insight to two amazing characters.    (received copy for honest review)

USA Today bestselling author Lynn Raye Harris burst onto the scene when she won a writing contest held by Harlequin. PROTECTING CAROLINE by Susan Stoker Book 1, SEAL of Protection Series

Matthew “Wolf” Steel hated flying commercial. Luckily his job as a Navy SEAL meant he didn’t have to do it very often. He’d been unlucky enough to be assigned a middle seat on the cramped jet, but fortunately for him, the woman next to him was willing to switch seats with him. Hoping for a relaxing flight, Wolf was pleasantly surprised at the good conversation and sense of humor the woman had as they flew 36,000 feet over the countryside.

When Caroline boarded the plane to Virginia to move across the country for her new job she never expected to be seated next to the hottest guy she’d ever seen. She also never expected he’d be so easy to talk to. She knew he’d never be interested in talking to her if he hadn’t been trapped in the seat next to her, but it was a nice way to spend a long plane ride.

Neither Wolf nor Caroline were prepared for a terrorist hijacking of their plane, but if Caroline thought that would be the last time she’d see, or need, Wolf, she’d be sorely mistaken.

Available at just $0.99 for a limited time. All proceeds go to America’s VetDogs®

Caroline leaned close to him and cautioned in a soft urgent voice, “Something’s wrong with the ice. I can smell it. It smells off, like something’s in it.”
Wolf picked up his drink again and raised it to his face. He could see Caroline wanted to stop him, but she didn’t. Pretending to take a sip he smelled it as she had… nothing. He couldn’t detect anything but the orange juice that was in the cup. He looked at her and said softly, “I don’t smell anything.”
Caroline was frustrated. She could tell Matthew wanted to believe her, but when he hadn’t noticed anything off about his drink, he was having a hard time. She looked away. Great, now he thought she was nuts. But she wasn’t. She was a chemist dammit, and this is what she did for a living. There was some other chemical in with the drink, she knew it. But how would she convince him without sounding crazy?
She turned back to Matthew, only to see him still looking at her.
“What is it?” he demanded softly. “Explain, so I can understand.”
Caroline’s respect for Matthew rose. He wasn’t sure he should believe what she was saying, but he was smart enough to give her time to convince him, and she knew she’d have to explain it in a way he could understand.
Caroline knew she had to get through to him and did her best to convince him she knew what she was talking about. Lowering her voice even further so the people around them wouldn’t hear her, she leaned into him and looked him in the eyes as she spoke. “I don’t know, but as a chemist I’m trained to pick up on the different chemical smells of compounds. I don’t know what it is, but it’s not natural.”
“Is it in mine too?” he asked her just as softly, passing his cup over to her.
She sniffed it and immediately nodded.
“Shit,” Wolf said under his breath. He believed her. He wasn’t a person to trust easily, but this woman didn’t have any guile in her at all. She’d have no reason to lie to him.

"Stone Cold Cowboy" (Jennifer Ryan) ★★★★ with GIVEAWAY!!

Stone Cold Cowboy
Montana Men #4
By: Jennifer Ryan

Releasing February 23, 2016

The last thing rancher Rory Kendrick expects to find when he’s searching for his missing cattle is a genuine damsel in distress. After rushing to help, he can’t help wanting to do anything he can for this lovely but damaged woman. But even his kind deed won’t get Sadie to tell him who’s responsible for hurting her.

Sadie is trying to hold onto her family, and her life. With an ill father who’s refusing treatment and a younger brother who has fallen in with a dangerous crowd, she’s beginning to feel like she can’t save anyone, least of all herself. When her brother owes money to the wrong people, Sadie tries to pay off his debts, but she doesn’t have the cash. The one person who might be able to help her out is the last person she wants to involve in her family drama, but Rory won’t take no for an answer.

Rory is all about family, but sometimes you’ve got to let go. If you can’t save them, save yourself. Sadie’s been dealt a bad hand she refuses to fold. Because he loves her, he’ll do anything to keep her safe and give her the happy life she deserves, even betray her trust to take down her brother.

“I really want to kiss you right now.”
Her gaze dipped to his mouth. If he wanted to kiss her, she needed to kiss him. She slid her hand up his shoulder to the back of his neck and pulled him in. She stared into his eyes and saw a hunger there that matched her own. She’d never felt this overwhelming urge to be close to someone, let alone a man, but something about Rory drew her in and made her want to stay.
“Did you change your mind, or are you just trying to kill me?”
His deep voice resonated through her. She pressed her lips to his, thinking it just a test. A way to see if they fit, connected on a deeper level than the pull she already felt toward him.
The second her lips touched his, fire lit through her system. She pulled back surprised that such a simple thing could spark such deep and overwhelming need. The same fire she felt flashed in his golden-green eyes.

“Once wasn’t enough.” This time, Rory pulled her back and kissed her, wrapping her in his strong arms.

"Stone Cold Cowboy" by Jennifer Ryan.  Here we have the tale of Rory and Sadie.  Rory, a sexy cowboy that has closed himself off from the world, saves Sadie, and in more ways than one!  He rescues here both physically and emotionally, meanwhile rescuing himself as well.  Sadie is a hard worker that takes care of her ailing father and desparetely tries to save her brother from himself.   Despite his being "stone cold", I really liked Rory from the start.  He might be a bit standoffish to some, but he only wants what's best for all. Of course, he's sexy and beneath his stoney facade, a really good guy.   Sadie was a sweetie - she is a bit afraid of Rory but I liked watching her grow and become more self assured. Rory's brothers were fun and I look forward to hopefully reading their stories of finding love too.   This story had some suspense and mystery too, which I liked.  It starts off immediately grabbing the reader's attention!  I did find the middle of the story a bit slow but the pace picks back up as it progresses and kept me engrossed in the tale.  I enjoy Ms. Ryan's works.  From the stories I've read of hers,  Ms. Ryan's heroines are usually strong and independent, yet find themselves in predicaments or situations that they need the help of the Hero.  For a tale that has love and danger too, don't miss this one!

"Taking the Score" (Kate Meader) ★★★★.5 with GIVEAWAY!!

Taking the Score
Tall, Dark, and Texan #2
By: Kate Meader
Releasing February 15, 2016
Entangled Brazen

A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

His office temptation is now his full-blown fantasy…

Paying down her sister’s debts has left Emma Strickland with little more than the thrift store suit on her back. And as if the suckfest couldn’t get worse, she’s forced to moonlight as a waitress to support herself and her cat. At a strip club. Her uptight, sexy-as-hell boss Brody Kane can never find out.

Texas property tycoon Brody Kane hired Emma for her spreadsheet skills, but her prim and proper demeanor sealed the deal. There’s no room in his life for a sexy distraction … and yet, he can’t stop lusting after the delicious Ms. Strickland. And then he takes an important client to a Chicago strip club and gets the worst lap dance in adult entertainment history. From Emma.

Now that he knows his office good girl has a naughty streak, Brody makes it his mission to uncover her secrets, one steamy, illicit, over-the-desk encounter at a time. But Emma is hiding more than her side job, and her final secret could end up destroying them both.

“Mr. Ka—uh, Brody?” she asked tentatively. “Are you okay?”
The sound came again, this time louder, and now that she was close, there was no doubt that it was Brody. Only he was definitely not hurt.
A groan disturbed the air. Full-throated, pleasure-tinged, threading an invisible line of need to the sensitive flesh between her thighs. A throb started up there, a sweet ache—oh God, there he went again. A deep, shuddering moan.
She turned away from the door, moving her back to greet the wall. Needing its support to keep her upright.
He was jerking off in the shower.
Oh. My. “Wow,” she whispered.
Acknowledging the fact tightened her nipples painfully. The pulse between her legs beat faster and joined the rhythm of her pounding heart. Instinctively, she moved her hand over her chest, seeking calm, but now that she had her hand on her breast, the action had a sensuous effect. Stroking her aching nipple produced short-term relief and a deep-seated need for more.
She dropped her hand like her breast was forbidden country. She couldn’t do that. Not here with her boss next door.
Her boss next door under a steamy spray with his big, rough hand stroking that monster cock.
Leave this room now. Forget what you heard.
Her feet seemed incapable of following her brain’s instructions. This was ridiculous. She shook her head, giving herself a mental shake, and stepped toward the door.
She stilled. Surely that was her imagination. Surely he had not just said her name. With that big hand wrapped around that big—
“Oh, Christ, Emma.”
She slumped against the wall, boneless, paralyzed at what she’d heard. Once might have been an accident, twice was the stuff of fantasies. His, apparently.
Hers, definitely.
Maybe it was a different Emma. Maybe he was fantasizing about his favorite Jane Austen novel. Right. Sure there had been odd moments in the office when she glanced up and found him staring at her from behind those sexy rims with an intense regard that made her sex tighten in need. But then he would look away as if it meant nothing.
However, things had changed. Lines had been hazed beyond recognition. She knew what he felt like inside her, how his beautiful cock was crafted to fill her emptiness. He had made her come hard, and last night, her dreams had been steamy and filled with him. She awoke sweating, humping her hand, her entire body on fire with want. Now he was using her in his fantasy. So flattering.
And arousing.
Unbearably arousing.
His next groan sounded louder, the shower tile’s amplification conspiring to crank up her own craving. What would he do if she walked in there, threw open the glass door, and stepped inside? Fell to her knees and took him in her mouth?
She squeezed her thighs together, desperate for relief. Aiming for completion without doing something so deliberate as touching herself. Look ma, no hands!
It was useless. The ache between her legs wouldn’t be soothed by damn Kegels. She should leave and down a quart of ice water. Douse it over her flaming skin.
But she didn’t. She couldn’t. Instead she pressed the heel of her hand against the part of her that begged for a salve. Yes. Better. Just a few rubs outside the boxers she had borrowed to ease the ache. Brody’s boxers, the thought of which merely hiked her desire. A couple of seconds of naughty indulgence, but damn…they were damp. And no touch had ever felt so good.
No touch but his.

"Taking the Score" by Kate Meader.  Wow!  I enjoyed this book.  It is a bit typical - sexy boy billionaire meets/rescues down on her luck girl.  However, the chemistry between Emma and Brody is off the charts!  And, Emma is anything but a lay down and take it kind of girl.  She's strong and fiercely indpendent.  Yet, she's also vulnerable and really, really needs a hug!  Brody, having been burned, is hesitant to trust yet falls so far and deep for Emma - it's uber hot.  He's broody and grumpy and a bit nerdy but all that together just makes for a temptation hard to resist.  The story line is a good one - at times it felt predictable but Ms. Meader threw me for a loop a time or two so that kept it very interesting.  I enjoyed the secondary characters - even Liv, who at times was a bit overbearing but deep down, I think she's just truly a sweet and caring girl.  Ms. Meader has hooked me in and I look forward to catching up on this series and to reading future tales as well.  (Yes, this is book 2 but I didn't read book 1 and had no problem whatsoever)

Originally from Ireland, Kate Meader cut her romance reader teeth on Maeve Binchy and Jilly Cooper novels, with some Mills & Boon thrown in for variety. Give her tales about brooding mill owners, oversexed equestrians, and men who can rock an apron or a fire hose, and she’s there. Now based in Chicago, she writes sexy contemporary romance with alpha heroes and strong heroines who can match their men quip for quip.
